The National Monuments Service's description

Located towards the bottom of the NW-facings spine of a NW-SE drumlin ridge, overlooking a NW-SE section of the Farne River, which is c. 150m to the SW. This is a circular grass-covered area (diam. c. 32m NW-SE) that slopes down steeply to the SW. It is defined by an earthen ban k (at SE: Wth of base 2.4m; int. H 0.45m; ext. H 0.85m) ENE-SSW and a slight scarp elsewhere. There is no visible fosse or entrance, but there is a triangular enclosure (ext. dims 10m N-S; 8m E-W) defined by a moss-covered stone spread (at W: Wth 1.4m; int. H 0.25m; ext. H 0.9m) abutting the inside of the bank at E, which is probably the remnants of a field system.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
