The National Monuments Service's description
Located on the SE-facing spine of a NW-SE drumlin ridge. This rath is depicted on McCrea’s map of County Monaghan (1793) and on the 1834 and 1907 editions of the OS 6-inch map. It is a circular grass-covered area (diam. 35m NNW-SSE; c. 32m ENE-WSW) defined by an overgrown earthen bank (at SW: Wth of base c. 5m; int. H c. 1m; ext. H 2m) that is replaced by a field bank SE-S, and traces of an outer fosse or drain (at SW: Wth of top 3.6m; Wth of base 2.8m; ext. D 0.5m) S-NW. It is surrounded by and a road bank SW-WNW. The original entrance is not identified.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
