Burial ground

The National Monuments Service's description

Located on a local rise with small SE-NW streams c. 150m to the NE and c. 200m to the SW. It is described as a graveyard on the 1834 and 1907 editions of the OS 6-inch map. This is a rectangular, slightly raised and overgrown area (dims 27.7m NW-SE; 23.4m NE-SW; 27.7m) enclosed by the foundations and the remains of a wall faced with slabs set on edge. The slab-lined entrance is in the middle of the SE side. It contains grave markers in lines of small stones and several thin slabs. According to tradition, it was known as ‘Shane Moat’ and was used in Penal and Famine times (IFC Schools' MSS vol. 938, 257), for which see this web-page accessed on 27/04/2018: https://www.duchas.ie/en/cbes There is no evidence of a church.
