The National Monuments Service's description
Located on top of a steep-sided drumlin. This rath is represented on McCrea’s Map of County Monaghan (1793) and on the 1834 and 1907 editions of the OS 6-inch map. It is a raised and slightly domed but overgrown area (diam. 33m E-W; 32.5m N-S) defined by an earthen bank separated by a fosse from a broad outer bank (Wth of top 4.8-6.3m) that has a narrow bank, perhaps a field bank, on its outer edge. At the foot of the outer bank is a distinct berm. There is an entrance (Wth of base 2.5m) and causeway (Wth of top c. 3m; H 0.4m) at ESE.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
