The National Monuments Service's description
Located on top of a drumlin. This rath is represented on McCrea’s Map of County Monaghan (1793) and on the 1834 and 1907 editions of the OS 6-inch map. It is a subcircular and domed grass and scrub-covered area (dims c. 35m NW-SE; 31m NE-SW) defined by an overgrown earthen bank. There is no visible fosse and a gap (Wth of base 3.4m) at SE could be the original entrance. A sunken area (L 8.8m; Wth 4.5m; D 0.6m) extending NE from a break in the bank at W has a spur (L 4.8m; Wth 3.8m; D 0.7m) extending SE and could be a collapsed souterrain, although no stone is present.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
