The National Monuments Service's description
Located on a rise towards the top of the N-facing slope of an E-W ridge. A circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 50m) is depicted here on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in gothic lettering as a ‘fort’. This is a circular grass-covered area (diam. c. 47.4m NNW-SSE; c. 45m ENE-WSW) defined by a slight scarp which is best preserve (Wth c. 2m; H 1m) W-NW and incorporated into a road bank NW-N. In 1968 the rath was bisected by a NNE-SSW field bank that had been removed by 1995 (OSAP).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
