The National Monuments Service's description
Located at the NW angle of Annaghmakerig Lough, a subrectangular lake (dims c. 1.1km E-W; c. 425m N-s) that has hardly been diminished by drainage although a sub-triangular bay (dims c. 140m N-S; c. 140m NE-SW) extending SW from the NW angle of the lake has been reclaimed since the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map. The crannog is now c. 30m from the shore but would once have been c. 80m. This is a circular cairn (diam. 15m) hardly appearing above the surface of the water but animal bones are present and deep water is just to the S.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
