The National Monuments Service's description

Situated on a broad summit. It is depicted faintly as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 35m) and described as a ‘fort’ in gothic lettering only on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map. This feature was described in 1968 as a grass and scrub-covered circular area (diam. 30m N-S; 27m E-W) defined by the base of an earth and stone bank (at ENE: Wth of base 1.7m; Wth of top 0.8m; int. H 0.45m; ext. H 0.6m) with no visible fosse. The entrance (Wth of base 2.2m) was at E. It was bisected by an ENE-WSW lane. The area had become completely overgrown with furze by 2000 (OSAP).

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
