Situated at the W end of a prominent E-W drumlin ridge. This is the site of the medieval parish church of Tullycorbet, which is included with Clontibret and Aughanmullen as ‘Plebs de Crichmugdorn’ – the people of Cremone - in the ecclesiastical taxation (1302-06) of Pope Nicholas IV (Shirley 1879, 289). The names of some of the clergy are known from 1415, and in the Royal Visitation of 1622 the church was described as repaired (Leslie 1929, 253-4). The present Church of Ireland church dedicated to St Patrick was built by the Board of First Fruits in 1831 (Lewis 1837, 2, 658), but it was closed by 1907 (OS 6-inch map). The roofless ruin of the present church is in a neglected subrectangular graveyard (max. dims c. 100m NW-SE; c. 40m NE-SW) defined by earthen banks. A corner portion of a gable coping with a carving of a head from the medieval church was noted in 1940 (ITA Survey) and it is probably still present, but its precise location in the overgrown graveyard is not known. Surveys undertaken in the 1940s for the Irish Tourist Association (now Fáilte Ireland) relating to ‘Natural features, antiquities, historic associations etc.' Extracts from these surveys were copied into the Topographical files of the Office of Public Works and these have been incorporated into the Sites and Monuments Record files (National Monuments Service).
