The National Monuments Service's description

Located on top of a drumlin. It is depicted as a large embanked enclosure described in gothic lettering as a 'fort' on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map. This is a D-shaped grass-covered area (diam. 78n E-W; 68m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth of base 4.5m; Wth of top 2m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1.9m) and hedge, with an outer drain (Wth of top 1.8m; Wth of base 0.9m; ext. D 1.1m) S-SW. The perimeter is incorporated into a field bank and hedge SW-N-E, but the monument has straight NNW-SSE and ENE-WSW field banks at E and S. An original entrance is not identified.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
