The National Monuments Service's description

Systematic archaeological testing (16E0451) by Deirdre Murphy of the large development area within Piercetown explored the larger enclosures (excavations.ie 2016:463). This programme also identified a third enclosure and three other potential, but smaller, archaeological areas. Final archaeological monitoring of topsoil stripping (16E0451) by Deirdre Murphy identified further features throughout the development area, but most of these were either related to the identified monuments or to drainage and almost all were resolved under the original licence (excavations.ie 2016:463). However, a ring-ditch came to light as two inter-cutting ditches that were not concentric. The inner feature (diam. 8m) was enclosed by an outer, wider ditch (Wth of top 2.5m) enclosing a circular area (int. diam. 12). This monument is to be preserved in situ as a green area with a 10m buffer zone. (Murphy 2019a, 9). A hearth and three ditches just to the SW could be connected with this barrow or with Site 1 (ME050-034----).
