The National Monuments Service's description
When a railway cutting was made at Newcastle in the nineteenth century vast quantities of human bones were uncovered together with spearheads and other weapons. The precise location of this discovery is not known, but it was thought that the remains were the result of some battle that had been hastily buried in a pit. Some of the artefacts are now in the National Museum of Ireland. (Wilde 1849, 74)
