The National Monuments Service's description
This site is located in the industrial peatlands of Kinnegad Bog. It was first recorded in the 2013 Peatland Survey as a Class 2 Road, built using longitudinally laid roundwoods, orientated E-W. It was traced for 45m, was visible in four consecutive drain faces, and lay between 0.17-0.69m below the field surface (Bermingham 2014). It was situated in raised bog peats. On excavation in 2015 (licence: 15E0161) it was interpreted to be a Neolithic structure. It was dated to cal. 3708-3534 BC (UBA 31812).
A single cutting, measuring 2x2m, was opened. The site was in poorly decomposed Sphagnum peat. It consisted of three short, poorly preserved lengths of brushwood 0.11m under the field surface, which were orientated NW-SE. One alder brushwood (L0.42m, Diam. 0.02m) was located at the N extent of the cutting, while the other two elements (L0.16/0.18m, Diam. 0.05m) were located 0.78m to the S and laid side by side.
