The National Monuments Service's description

Located on the S bank of the River Boyne and within the ward of Trim Castle (ME036-048004-). The remains of a small rectangular structure (int. dims c. 8m E-W; c. 4.3m N-S) was excavated (E000094) as part of the conservation of the keep. This structure (J) had an introduced clay floor, and was thought to pre-date the fosse and plinth of the keep. Because of its orientation and aspects of its construction, it was suggested by the excavator that it might have been a church Sweetman (1978, 131-3). It is now thought to be one of the buildings within the ringwork castle (ME036-048033-) phase of development where it would be the only stone building (Hayden 2011, 70-1). (Potterton 2005, 59-60)
