Located on a fairly steep S-facing slope on the N bank of the River Boyne. Archaeological testing (98E0556) during 1998 uncovered archaeological features (Seaver 2000) that were further investigated in 2001 under the same licence (Clarke 2001; 2003). Beneath topsoil was an extensive layer of loamy clay containing a mixture of medieval and post-medieval pottery. Features revealed include evidence of two houses and two burgage plots with some cobbled surfaces. A WNW-ESE channel just E of the burgage plot (ME036-048028-), at the water’s edge and parallel with it, could have provided the river-side boundary of another plot, and evidence of a palisade was found in an excavated sample. Up the slope a similar NNE-SSW channel cut into subsoil about 10m from the long boundary wall of the stone-walled burgage plot (ME036-048028-). However, it was not parallel with the stone wall and contained eighteenth century material so it is not a medieval boundary and could be a furrow.
