The graveslab (dims 1.39m x 0.67m; T 0.1-0.14m) that partly covers the Preston-Plunkett tomb (ME027-038006-) is not the original and commemorates John Bellew, who died in 1692.
From: Bradley and King (1985, 46) John Bellew 1692. Slate slab with a weathered inscription and a worn coat of arms, presumably Bellew, set on top of the 15th century Preston – Plunkett tomb chest. Incised inscription in Roman capitals: THIS TOMBE HATH BEEN REPAIRED AND / THE VAVLT MADE BY DAME MARY BERMINGHAM / OF DVNFERTH WIFE TO JOHN LORD BELLEW / WHOE WAS SHOT IN THE BELLY IN OVGHRIM FIGHT THE FIRST OF JVLY 1691. AS SOONE / AS HE FOUND HIMSELF ABLE TO VNDERTAKE A IVRNEY HE WENT TO HIS LDAY TO LONDON / WHERE HE DEYED THE 12 OF IANVARY 1692 / HE WAS LAID IN A VALT IN WESTMINSTER / ….L THE APRIL FOLLOWING. HIS CORPS … HER ….
