The National Monuments Service's description

Situated in the interior of the rath (ME025-005----). Excavation (E000144) by E. P. Kelly in 1975 of a barrow at Simonstown uncovered a rectangular house. It is described (Kelly 1977) as the foundation trenches of a rectangular structure (max. dims 10.5m x 6.5m) with rounded corners and two internal post-holes. No artefacts are directly associated with it but it appears to be earlier than the Phase III ringfort occupation and numerous hearths and pits with Neolithic material were present in the vicinity.
