The National Monuments Service's description
This is medieval house 5, located on the E side of the great mound c. 7m NW of the entrance to Tomb 1C East, and on the back-filled lower fosse of the rath which had been levelled up with a layer of brown earth. This was the earliest house on the E side of the mound and consisted of the remains of a paved area (dims 5.7m N-S; 5.6m E-W) with adjacent portions of its N and W walls surviving but much of the S and W walls were destroyed by the building of souterrain 3. A stone bench (Wth 1.45m) was built on the paving at the N side and the inner face of the E wall was also evident. As the paving was built over the rath ditch it sagged towards its E edge. Two main phases of occupation were recognised in two hearths. Among the artefacts recovered from this house was a fragment of a copper alloy weighing scales. (Eogan 2012, 106-09)
