The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on a slight rise in the valley of a small NW-SE stream that joins with many others to enter the River Blackwater close to Kells. The site of the medieval parish church of Loughan (ME010-013----) is within the circular graveyard (dims c. 49.3m N-S; 47m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth c. 2-3m; H 1-1.4m) with trees and an external stone facing. The centre of the graveyard is a raised subcircular or D-shaped rath (ME010-013002-). The burials date from c. 1750-1965. The only evidence of the church is a piece of sandstone (dims 0.22m x 0.2; H 0.26m) in the E quadrant with a crude rebate for a door.
