The National Monuments Service's description

On a traffic island in Cong village. Cross-base (L 0.91m; H 0.41m; Wth 0.77m) rests on modern concentric limestone steps (H 0.54m). A 19th century cross shaft is set into an early medieval cross-base. Base is inscribed in relief and reads in medieval Gaelic OR DO NIAHOL AG (us) DO GILLIBARD O'DUBHTAIGH RAIBIH ABAIDDE AGT CUNGA 'A prayer for Niahol (Nicol) and for Gillebard (Gilbert) O'Dubthaigh (O'Duffy) who were Abbots of Cong'. (Wilde 1872, 175).
