In fairly level pasture, with good views over the surrounding gently undulating terrain. There is an expanse of bog a few hundred meters to SE. The Partry Mountains define the skyline at W−NW, with the peak of Croagh Patrick rising above at NW.
An oval enclosure/feature (c. 18m N−S; c. 10m E−W) bordered at W by a field wall is shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch map; an oblong hachured feature is shown on the 1915 edition.
Subrectangular flat-topped mound (top: 11m N−S; 8.4m E−W) defined by a dilapidated stony scarp (H 0.8m at S, 0.7m at N; Wth slope 1m at S, 3.5m at N). It appears to be composed of earth and stones. There is a hint of a raised rim at the top of the scarp in parts, especially at NW. Large stones protrude from the scarp on the W side –perhaps remnants of stone facing or a wall (the W side appears to be incorporated into a boundary on the 1838 OS 6-inch map). A low sod-covered stony rise, probably the remnants of a field fence- extends S from the SW corner.
A crabapple tree grows on the top of the mound at its N end and hawthorn and elder trees grow around the scarp. Farm stock have denuded sections of the surface and scarp.
