Hut site

The National Monuments Service's description

Situated c. 15m outside and to NE of the defences of ‘Doonagappul’ promontory fort (MA085-015001-). The house lay right on the northern cliff edge, close to the present degraded earthen field bank that traverses the landward (eastern) end of the promontory.
Described by Westropp (1911a, 23) as the ‘faint trace of a ring, 30 feet [9.15m] north and south by about 24 feet [7.3m], probably a hut’. However, on his published plan (1911a) it is labelled as ‘house site’. It is shown thereon as an incomplete oval ring, the northern portion evidently already eroded by the cliff. His manuscript plan of the site (1911b, 272) also shows that the ‘hut’ was attached to western side of an old boundary running southwards across the promontory. No visible surface trace of any of these features survives, and a geophysical survey of the area failed to reveal any definite traces of them.
