The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on sloping ground on the north-western bank of a mountain stream (Pollbrandy on Ordnance Survey maps) c. 37m NE of MA085-005001- and downslope from it. The original stream course is here intact, but immediately upstream from the monument is the lower end of the modern drain- age channel. A half-destroyed fulacht fia, only the east-north-eastern arm of which survives intact (NE–SW >6.8m, NW–SE 6.8m, H 0.85m max. on NE side). Originally, it appears to have been horseshoe shaped in plan, opening to S towards the stream. All visible surface trace of the west- south-western arm is gone, having been obscured/disturbed by debris from the drainage work. The east-north-eastern mound and the trough area appear intact. However, the trough area shows an exposure of burnt stone on its summit. Burnt stone from the west-south-western arm is also visible in the face of the stream bank.
The above description is derived from: New Survey of Clare Island. Volume 5: Archaeology. Edited by Paul Gosling, Conleth Manning and John Waddell. (Royal Irish Academy, Dublin. 2007). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated.
