Booley hut

This is one of six huts (MA084-0021---- to MA084-0026----), which occur in a cluster in an exposed site on commonage about halfway up the S flanks of Knockmore. The huts are situated at different levels on a very steep slope over a distance of c. 60m on either side of a small stream. They were most likely associated with booleying activities. This hut lies to SW of the stream, 22.3m downslope and ESE of MA084-021----. Another hut (MA084-023----) lies 9.6m downslope to ENE. It consists of the foundations of an elongated house, roughly subrectangular in plan (6.3m E–W, 2.3m N–S). It is delimited by a grassy bank of varying width (1–2m) and height (0.4m max.). This is best defined on its long sides but fades into the hill at the upslope (western) end and is very slight along its eastern perimeter. Some large boulders protrude from the bank, notably at the eastern end. A gap (Wth 0.7m) close to the eastern end of the northern wall may mark the entrance. A small rivulet ran though it at time of visit.
