Ringfort - rath

In pasture, located on a low rise with good views, c. 100m of N of the townland boundary in the S half of the townland.
A slightly raised circular area (29.4m NNW–SSE; 27.4m ENE-WSW) defined by remnants of a stony bank (Wth 3-4m; int. H 0.2-0.3m; ext. H 0.55m at SSE, 1.4m at N). The bank is evident as an earthen scrap with a low internal rise, topped with a sod-covered stony lip (Wth 1.4m; H 0.2m). The scarp is low at SE–S. There is a low area or break (Wth c. 2m) at NW. In the level interior, faint linear features, on roughly N–S axis, may be relict cultivation ridges. According to local information, the interior was used as a children’s burial ground (MA062-022001-).
A remnant of a field fence skirts the rath at SSE–SW, merging with the external face of the bank at WNW–W, but has been removed where it continued beyond the rath to NW. Heaps of field clearance stones lie adjacent to the rath at SE. There are hawthorn and blackthorn bushes on the perimeter at SE–W, which are encroaching on the interior.
