Ringfort - cashel

In pasture, located at the break of slope on the S side of an E–W ridge, with excellent views E–W–S but somewhat restricted to N. There is a ruined 19th century farmstead immediately adjacent at N.
Broadly oval area (21m N–S; 24m E–W) enclosed by a ruined stone wall (Wth 1.5-2m; int. H 1.4m; ext. H 1.2m). This cashel has been modified as a result of incorporation into a series of later field walls, and by its use as an extension of the farmstead, which lies to N. It is bisected centrally by a farm lane (Wth 2m) flanked by field walls, now tumbled, which extends to SSE through the cashel from the farmstead, and an E–W field wall, now ruined, divides the W half of the interior into two equal quadrants..
The cashel wall is evident as a sod-covered jumble of stones; sections at W have been rebuilt in modern times. At ENE–SE it is largely obscured by heaps of field clearance debris, which have been push up against it following the removal of nearby field walls. This gives the wall enclosing the E side of the enclosure a linear appearance. At S the wall appears to have been built on top of a scarp, cut into the natural slope, but this now obscured by heaps of field clearance. The interior has a slight slope to S in the S half. A break (Wth 5.8m) in the enclosing wall at N allows access from the farmyard to the cashel interior, but this is unlikely to have been the original entrance.
