The National Monuments Service's description
Located at the NW end of an elevated spit of land that forms a small peninsula jutting out of the W side of Bartragh Island in Killala Bay. Slightly sunken rectangular area (c. 10m NNW–SSE; 4m ENE–WSW) defined on the E, S and W sides by low earthen banks. At the N end a slight rise and differential vegetation may indicate the location of the original enclosing bank but the remains are ephemeral and it is, therefore, difficult to estimate the original NNW–SSE length of the building. On the E side degraded remnants of a bank survive with a break (Wth 4m), possibly an entrance, at the S end. The S and W sides are bordered by low but clearly defined sod-covered banks (Wth 1m; int. H 0.5-0.7m; ext. H 0.15-0.2m). The bank on the W side has been truncated by erosion at its NNW end. The interior, which appears sunken relative to exterior ground level on the S and W sides, is level and grass-covered. There is a field boundary (MA022-115001-) located 3.6m to SE.
