Ringfort - rath

In wettish-average, rolling pasture, located on a low rise, close to the townland boundary in the SW end of the townland.
This rath is named ‘Rathnageeroge’ on the 1838 and 1929 OS 6-inch maps. It consists of a raised, roughly circular area (24.5m N–S; 27.5m E–W) defined by a bank (Wth 3.3m at NE; 3.5m at SW; int. H 0.1m at NE, 0.4m at SW; ext. H 2m at NE, 1.1m at SW) of earth and stone. The rath appears to have been built up on the S half to compensate for the slight natural slope and create a level interior. Stones protrude randomly from the bank. At the NNE a short section of a drystone walling, four to five courses high, constructed of small to medium-sized stones, is exposed along the base of the external face of the bank. The bank is narrower in width (Wth 1.8m) at this point, in contrast with the broad external slump evident elsewhere on the N half of the enclosure; this walling may be is the result of relatively recent modification.
A few ash trees growing on the perimeter.
