The National Monuments Service's description
This record is based on a reference in the 1838 OS Letters to a limekiln, remnants of which could still be seen in the 1830’s: 'Near it is also pointed out the remaining portion of his limekiln and at this is seen the site of the lime house.' (O’Flanagan 1927, 224 (127-8)).
According to local tradition, it was associated with St. Gobban, whose church (MA015-057001-) gave the townland its name. The exact location of the limekiln is unknown.
