Hut site

The National Monuments Service's description

Hut-site built into gentle, SW facing slope on wet ground near valley floor, with Glounreagh Monabrack Stream 40m to SSW which marks townland boundary with Carrigeen Mountain. Listed as Knocknagalty 2 (Costello 2016, 304-5). Present remains consist of a sub-circular/oval-shaped area (ext. dims. 7.3m NW-SE x 6m SW-NE; int. dims. 5.2m NW-SE x 3.7m SW-NE) enclosed by a low poorly constructed wall (avg. H 0.35m; avg. T 0.85m) of undressed stones and peat packing (Costello 2020, 121). Aligned NW-SE with an entrance (Wth 0.5m) at SE, overlooking curving Glounreagh valley. Patches of raised ground outside the entrance appear to form some sort of passageway (Costello 2015, 53). Likely to have been sods on top of the walls in the past judging from collapsed sod material on inside.
