The National Monuments Service's description

Ó Danachair (1955, 209) recorded the following details about this holy well; 'Tobereen on 1840 map, changed to "Tobar Fhionain" on 1928 edition. "The name of this well it would appear is Tobereen and not Toberania. Perhaps you could say whether it ought to be engraved in old English as a holy well? I think it ought. J.O'D."OSNB. "Tubbereen als. Pauderaugha, The little well for Prayer" do. There is now no tradition of any holy well'.
