The National Monuments Service's description
In reclaimed pasture, 30m E of townland boundary with Newtown. A bronze age pit (LI049-056----) lies 30m to the E. Not marked on OSi 6-inch maps. Bronze age pit (site TR/2/16/4a) excavated in 1986 by Eoin Grogan on the Bórd Gáis Éireann Curraleigh West-Limerick gas pipeline (Gowen 1988, 82-84). The results of this excavation were described as following; ‘Both the upper portion and the northern side of this pit were removed in trenching. The surviving section was 70cm in diameter, 40cm in width and was 35cm deep. It had a bowl-shaped profile with an overhanging lip. Around the edges below the lip were the charred remains of a lining of upright timbers which enclosed a roughly circular core 40cm in diameter. This survived to a maximum height of 5cm. A stake hole was revealed at the base of the pit immediately beneath the southern edge of the planked core. There were four lenses of fill, all of which were burnt and heavily charcoal-flecked. There were no finds, nor were there any flecks of burnt bone in the fill' (Grogan 1987, 26). No surface remains visible on Digital Globe orthoimage taken between 2011-13 or on Google Earth rthoimages.
