The National Monuments Service's description

In pasture, 75m SE of townland boundary with Ballyroe Lower. Not depicted on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map. Shown on the 1897 OSi 25-inch map as a sub-rectangular shaped hollow possibly a small quarry (dims. c. 20m N-S; 14m E-W) of post-1700 date. In 1997, archaeological monitoring of excavations was undertaken by Eachtra Archaeological Projects the resuls of which were summarised as following; ‘No traces of an enclosure site were uncovered during the earth stripping and excavation works. The finds recovered from the topsoil were all post-medieval in date’ (1997). No surface remains visible on Digital Globe orthoimage taken between 2011-13 and on Google Earth orthoimages. Of doubtful antiquity, probably the remains of a post-1700 gravel pit or small quarry.
