The National Monuments Service's description
In pasture, 80m W of townland boundary with Mortlestown. An earthwork (LI048-048----) lies 80m to the SW. Not marked on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map. Shown on the 1897 OSi 25-inch map as a raised rectangular shaped area (dims. c. 52m NW-SE; 19m NE-SW) defined by a scarp. Monitoring of excavations undertaken by Celie O’Rahilly (Licence No. 95E0097) in 1995 were summarised as following; ‘Digging of the percolation area of a development was monitored as this ran in close proximity to a platform enclosure, the east side of which has been encroached on by the perimeter fence of the new development and by topsoil stripping of the building site. Nothing of archaeological interest was noted.’ Possible monument visible as a rectangular-shaped area defined by a tree-lined bank on Digital Globe orthoimage taken between 2011-13 and on Google Earth orthoimages. Rectilinear cropmarks visible adjacent to the monument may represent drainage channels associated with land reclamation works.
See attached Google Earth orthoimages.
