The National Monuments Service's description

The field to the E of Spittle Br. on the 1840 ed. OS 6-inch map may be the location of a leper hospital. Described in the Urban Survey (Bradley et. al. 1989, 165) as following; 'Spital field, about one mile north the site of a leper hospital which may have been in charge of the Order of Knights Hospitallers (Lee 1965, 147-8; Lewis 1837, ii, 173)'. Duplicate site with LI047-105----.
