The precise location of a medieval mill in the townland of Mayne has not been identified. The 1655 Civil Survey of Limerick recorded that in 1640 Colonel Francis Courtnay was the owner of Mayne which contained, 'a Castle [LI045-001----] and a Mill seate out of reparation' (Simington 1938, 260).
