The National Monuments Service's description

The precise location of a medieval mill in the townland of Ballyscaddan now Ryves Castle has not been identified. In 1655 the Civil Survey of Limerick recorded that John FitzGibbon of Ballyscaddan, an Irish papist was the owner of Ballyscaddan 'whereon stands a Castle [LI041-021----] out of Repaire and a Mill seate' (Simington 1938, 233).
