The National Monuments Service's description

Earthwork described in 1943 as following; 'This is a small earthen ring fort with a well defined fosse. The bank has collapsed inwards and outwards, filling the fosse to a considerable extent and giving the interior space a bowl shape. The lowest portion of the interior is higher than the field level, from which a ramp slopes up through the entrance on the south-east side. Outside the bank on the east side is a length of berm, but this does not occur elsewhere. The top of the bank is in places 12' [3.6m] higher than the field level, and at its base is 10' [3m] to 15' [4.5m] thick. The overall diameter of the monument is 150' [45m]. It is called Cromwell's Fort on the O.S. map' (O'Kelly 1942-3, 177). Outline of monument is clearly visible today on Digital globe aerial photographs.
