Standing stone

Situated on top of high ground (348 ft. OD) with commanding views of the surrounding countryside. Standing stone described in 1943 as following; ''This is a well shaped limestone pillar 5' [1.5m] high and 1' 9" [0.53m] by 1' [0.3m] at the base. It occupies the highest point of a hill which is intersected by many ancient fences' (O'Kelly 1942-3, 182-3). Present remains consist of a stone (H 1.3m; 0.32m x 0.69m) with rounded top which is rectangular in plan with long axis N-S. Stone setting around base of mound may be related to the trig. station at this location by the Ordnance Survey. Listed by Grogan (1989, 271) as 'Moohane 1'. Low linear earthworks of a relict field system are visible in field to N of standing stone.
