In flat gently undulating wet pasture 18m NW of the junction of three townlands (Loughgur, Moohane and Kilcullane). The site is located 1km SE of the Carraig Aille stone forts (LI032-053002-/003-) at Lough Gur. The site is part of a complex of archaeological monuments comprising of a multi-vallate ringfort (LI032-071001-) with possible settlement earthworks (LI032-071004-) abutting the SE side; with an earthwork (LI032-071003-) located 30m NW of the ringfort (LI032-071001-). The site is not depicted on historic OSi maps.
Identified (LI032-071003-) by Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 177; AP 4/3606) as an earthwork NW of a ringfort (LI032-071001-), the site appears as a circular dark area in the photo suggesting a pond or negative feature. The circular feature (ext. diam. c. 18m N-S; 17m E-W) is visible on the OSi orthoimage taken 2005-12; Digital Globe orthoimage taken 2011-2013 and Google Earth orthoimages taken 05/04/2006; 25/03/2017; 28/06/2018 and 20/09/2020.
