The National Monuments Service's description

The precise location of a medieval eel weir in the townland of Tooreen has not been identified. The 1654-56 Civil Survey of Limerick recorded that Edmund Hickie of Tooreen, an Irish Papist, was the owner of 'six greate accres with two houses, the stump of a castle [LI030-129----] one Eele weare out of repaire, and an orchard' (Simington 1938, 140).
