The National Monuments Service's description
The Urban Survey of Limerick recorded the following details about a 17th century graveslab marking the grave of John Hayward located in the centre of the aisle of the church in Rathkeale;
'John Hayward. 1638. Said to be in the centre aisle and inscribed as follows:
'1638 HEREUNDER LIETH THE BODY OF JOHN HAYWARD, WHO DECEASED .. OF FEBRUARY
Mems Dead ix (1913-16), 307' (Bradley et. al. 1989, 221).
