The National Monuments Service's description

A letter was sent to the National Museum of Ireland in 1937 reporting the discovery of 'piling sticks' at bottom of a bog '6ft from surface' (NMI Top. Files). In reply Adolf Maher suggests these may be the remains of a crannog. The location of the find was given as 'in vicinity of Carrickerry' (ibid.). Nothing further is known of this discovery.
