The National Monuments Service's description
Situated in grassland, with Coonagh castle (LI025-002002-) and Cahernahallia River 215m and 160m to W respectively. Castletown church forms N boundary of small rectangular-shaped graveyard described in 1840 as 'the supposed, ruin of a Friary. The walls are about 10 feet [3m] high, and in length and breadth respectively about 40 feet [12m] and 20 feet [6m]. It is now used as a burial-place, though but few interments take place in it' (OSNB, 353).
Ruins of church stand in the N quadrant of a rectangular-shaped graveyard (approx. dims. 25m N-S x 32m E-W) enclosed by a post and wire fence with stone wall and entrance gate at S end of short stretch of E wall. Cluster of low uninscribed stones to S of church mark burial plots, 19th century inscribed memorial to the O'Brien family of Coona inside W end of church. No evidence of any low stones or possible gravemarkers in area to N and W of church.
