The National Monuments Service's description
On a slight E-facing slope, in pasture, with moderate to good views in all directions. Ringfort (LI022-003----) 95m to S. Depicted as a roughly circular shaped grove of trees and not as an antiquity on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map. Shown on the 1897 ed. OS 25-inch map as a suboval-shaped tree-planted enclosure. Monument surveyed by the ASI in 2000 and described as a slightly raised suboval-shaped area (39m E-W; 28m N-S) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 3.8m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.45m) and an external fosse (overall Wth 5m; D 0.1m). The bank encloses the monument from NW-N-E-S-SW and is incorporated into a field boundary from SW-W-NW. A shallow fosse encloses the monument from NW-N-E-S-SW and is not visible on the W side of the field boundary from SW-W-NW. There is no obvious entrance. The interior is level, dry and clear of vegetation. The bank is planted with mature Beech trees and this monument is known locally as ‘The Grove’. This monument may have been a ringfort that was modified as a demesne feature associated with Jockey Hall (1810-1830), located 280m to SE. Monument is visible as a roughly rectangular-shaped tree-planted earthwork on Digital Globe orthophotos taken 2011-13 and on Google Earth orthoimage taken 28/06/2018.
See attached sketch plan surveyed by the ASI and Google Earth orthoimage.
