The National Monuments Service's description

The historic bridge of Adare was described in the Urban Survey of Limerick (Bradley et. al. 1989, 3) as following: 'According to Lewis (1837, i, 8-9) a bridge of fourteen arches was built here by the 5th earl of Kildare [Desmond?]. The present bridge is of more recent date'.
