Anomalous stone group

The National Monuments Service's description

On a rise in undulating pasture 200m W of ringfort (LI018-048----). Annotated ‘Crom Leac’ on both the 1840 OS 6-inch map and the 1897 0S 25-inch map (Borlase 1897, 46; Lynch 1905, 16-17). The Megalithic Survey of Ireland (de Valera and Ó Nualláin 1982, 77) recorded that the feature was mistakenly identified as a standing stone in the Name Book of the 1841 Ordnance Survey. Described by the Ordnance Survey as a 'standing stone having another stone lying by it' (OSNB). Visited in 1996 when it was described as consisting of three large boulders of sedimentary, hard shale-like material, one upright orientated NE-SW (H 1.62m; Wth 1.51m; T 0.3m) and two lying flat (L 2.5m; Wth 1.4m; T 0.3m, L 1m; Wth 0.86m; T 0.24m) with a number of granite packing stones. A number of smaller stones are scattered around the upright. Visible in pasture at S end of a field on Google Earth orthoimage dated 15/04/2020.
