The National Monuments Service's description
No standing remains are now extant of the bawn of Glin Castle (LI017-022002-) and archaeological excavation by Celie O'Rahilly in 1991 failed to find any trace of it (O'Rahilly 1991). The bawn is illustrated in a drawing of the 1600 siege of the castle (Donovan and Edwards 1997, cover). This shows the tower standing at the SW corner of a rectangular enclosure whose entrance gateway is mid-way along its N wall. There is a large hall along the inside of the W wall and two corner towers at NE and SE angles. The bawn wall itself is crenelated.
