The National Monuments Service's description

Westropp (1906-07, 99-100) recorded the following details about Castlecomfort; 'This very probably the last named. In 1840 the house was said to stand on the site of an old castle (O.S.L., 8. 444). It adjoins Aghacore, and "core" may have been taken for "cobhair," assistance, relief, or [in the old sense] "comfort".' In 1840 the Ordnance Survey recorded that Castle Comfort or Caisleán na bPaerach/ Castle of the Powers 'was built in 1824 at a cost of about £800. It is 2 story high, is placed on an eminence, and takes its name from a castle that stood on the site in days of old' (OSNB Abington Parish, 38). Circular-shaped platform located 10m E of Castle Comfort appears to mark the site of the levelled castle.
19th century house described by the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage (NIAH) as a, 'Detached four-bay two-storey house, built c. 1820, with entrance through single-storey porch to side. Hipped roof with rendered chimneystacks and pots. Rendered walls. Square-headed window openings with timber sash windows. Square-headed door opening with fanlight and side lights. Multiple-bay two-storey stables and outbuildings to rear across courtyard. Pitched slate roof. Limestone walls. Square-headed window and door openings with red brick surrounds. Round-headed and elliptical-headed vehicular openings. Square-headed dormer opening. Walled garden' (www.buildingsofireland.ie; NIAH Reg. No. 21901424).
