The National Monuments Service's description
On low hill, to W of lake. The surrounding demesne is now a forest park. Curragh Chase is large 'two storey over basement' 18th century house, with early- 19th century addition, gutted by fire in 1941 (Bence Jones 1978, 97); walls of house still stand but door and window opes blocked up. According to Westropp (1906-7, 159) probably on site of Curragh Castle which is mentioned in Desmond Roll. The castle referred to in the Desmond Roll is probably the castle in the townland of Currahchase North (LI011-072---) located 2km to the N of Currah Chase house. No evidence to suggest that Currah Chase House was built on site of castle.
